Nowadays university degree became more and more popular. One of the most widespread degrees is the bachelor’s degree. There are several types of bachelor’s degrees. Bachelor’s degree is usually awarded to those people who completed the four years of studying.
The UK educational system consider pass and honor degrees. The same systems have such countries as Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland, India, Singapore and Maltese.
To receive the honor degree, the students have to complete additional year of studying. It is the academic standard all over the world. After the graduation the students obtain the degree which is called B.A. (Hons).
There are two types of degrees in such regions as Northern Ireland, England and Wales: honors and ordinary degree.
Pass and honors degree are also provided by the Australian educational institutions. The honors degree is obtained by those people who have academic and work achievements. If the student studies in scientific field, they have to complete the additional studying year and make a research project and thesis.
The bachelor’s degree was established in the year 1800. At that time only one type of bachelor’s degree existed – the bachelor of Art. In the end of 19th century another type appeared – the Bachelor of Science degree.
In the United States there are also two types of degree. Those students who study in such fields as finance, management, business, marketing, math and nursing obtain the Bachelor of Science degree. Other student who study usually liberal arts, receive the Bachelor of Arts degree. But many students do not tell the difference between these two types of degrees. The students also do not pay attention to this difference.
The bachelor’s degree is the main requirement for those people who want to continue the education and receive the master’s degree or even PhD. But such degree need several additional years of studying.
